Two Signs That The Brakes On Your RV Need To Be Replaced

If you own or operate a recreational vehicle (RV), you understand just how important it is to make sure that the brakes are always in good condition.  Depending on which model you have, your RV could weigh several thousand pounds and if the brakes go out and you mistakenly collide with another vehicle, the damage could be brutal.  That's why it's so vital for you to pay attention to the signs that your brakes are on the verge of malfunctioning.  Use this information to learn more about two symptoms of faulty brakes in your RV:

Excessive Vibrating When Braking

One of the telltale signs that it's time for new brakes on your RV can be noted by paying attention to how much your camper shakes when you attempt to break.  If you find that the entire cabin vibrates excessively each time you attempt to stop the RV, it's time to have a professional take a look at those brakes.

Understand that if you try to brake suddenly after traveling at a high speed, it's normal for the RV to shake.  After all, you're trying to stop a vehicle of massive weight so it's quite natural for there to be a whole lot of shaking going on.  However, if you notice that the shaking occurs even when you're driving at a slower pace or when you give the RV ample time to come to a complete stop, it's highly likely that the rotors on your brakes have worn out and it's time to replace them.

Your Brakes Emit A Loud Screeching Sound When Braking

Another sign that it's time to have your brakes inspected is when they emit a loud, screeching sound when you're braking.  The noise can be very unsettling because it is there to send you a warning about the condition of your brakes.

As your brake pads wear away, there is more metal-on-metal contact because there is nothing to act as a buffer between the cylinders which make up your braking system.  This can be quite dangerous because when your brake pads go, it's going to be next to impossible to get your RV to stop on command.

Don't allow yourself to become acclimated to these signs because doing so could lead to disaster.  The moment either of these symptoms crops up, get the RV over to a technician immediately.  You just might end up being extremely glad that you did.
